Troubleshooting

ChatGPT Share Link Not Working? Here's How to Fix It

March 21, 20264 min read

When a conversion fails, the cause is almost always the link rather than the converter. These are the four failures worth checking, in order of likelihood.

The link was un-shared

Deleting a shared link in ChatGPT settings makes the page inaccessible immediately. Re-share the conversation to mint a fresh URL.

It is a private conversation URL

A URL copied from the address bar while viewing your own chat is not public — it only resolves for your logged-in session. Use Share to create a proper link, or paste the chat text instead.

The chat was deleted

Deleting the underlying conversation invalidates every share link created from it. There is no recovery path, which is the best argument there is for exporting early.

The URL is malformed

Trailing punctuation from a chat app, a truncated identifier or a link wrapped by an email client will all fail. Paste the raw URL, ending with the identifier and nothing after it.

Convert a chat right now

Paste a public ChatGPT share link and download a typeset PDF — free, no login.
